When I sent him this list of questions, he answered them and added, "These things always make me realize that I must seem odd to people." No, not at all Stefan.
What is your favorite recipe?
- Complete Job
- Get paid
- Order Indian food
- Eat without witnesses
What is your favorite place in the whole world?
My studio is my favorite place in the whole world. I have a great view, I'm surrounded by things that make me happy and that allow me to do what I do.
What is the name of your first pet?
Cesar. A white bunny. The name derives from this German kids show.
What are you currently reading?
I've been reading William Gibson's Spook Country for the past three years. And by "reading" I mean, I read the first half, got busy, and have now been carrying the book on dozens of flights and into dozens of hotel rooms without reading another page. It's embarrassing. I loved it when I started, and then just ran out of time. I just haven't had a chance to finish. In the meantime I've absorbed a number of self-help books about stress management, but that hardly counts as reading. With curiosity now on Mars, I'm dying to re-read Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars" trilogy. When there's time. In a few years.
Where's the one place you recommend people visit when traveling to certain cities?
Next time you're in New York, have a meal at Café Sabarsky. It's part of the Neue Gallerie on 86th and Fifth. It's modeled after a Viennese café and has great Old World food. The musem gift shop is one of the prettiest and well stocked gift shops around. Of course, the museum itself is fantastic, too.
What can you not live without?
TV. I've tried. It didn't go well.
Favorite haunts in Los Angeles:
Ralph's, after midnight.
Best burger you've ever had:
Present: The meatloaf sandwich at Auntie Em's Kitchen in Eagle Rock, California.
Past: The Bremsklotz sandwich at Uwe's Hannenfaß in Hannover, Germany
Favorite thing to do with children:
I get along best with kids that don't get along well with other kids. We talk about life.
Favorite band/favorite song:
This always changes so quickly. I've binged on the Beatles "Love" soundtrack/mashup/mixtape recently. I never heard it until a few weeks ago, and I'm addicted. I keep coming back to "Comfortably Numb," too. It's a yin and yang thing. Another recent favorite is "Tallulah" by Company of Thieves.
