Color Consumption

SomeONE to Love

Authors: Jake Lefebure, Pum Lefebure

Love is in the air and it's a ONEderful thing. It can make girls giggle, boys flee, and designers go crazy. That's because we'll do some seriously insane things when given just a tiny bit of creative freedom. Yes, this post goes a little off color but hey, love is blind. Besides, we're dealing with the color of creative love and it comes in many shades—including plaid and fur. The 2012 ONE SHOW, themed "ONEderful," celebrates the loving, wonderfully creative industry (and world) we live in. It's a place where attitude is left at the door and affection pervades – especially if you're lucky enough to win a coveted pencil.

Sometimes it's ok to get caught with your pants down—as long as it's in the name of creative love. This love story unfolds in a typical creative world, which is to say not a normal world. All of nature's taxidermal muses are there to encourage you to create amazing things. Even clouds and flora are your friends and will do anything to make sure you're creatively content. After all, imagination (with a dash of incongruity) is what makes our world go around. It's ONEderful.

This post isn't completely devoid of color. It's there—you just need to look closely to see the rainbow of love. Green, blue, and red plaids set a cheery tone (plaid is a color, right!?), as beams of golden sunshine pierce through the gloom of everyday work. The creative forecast? A warm front of inspiration showers the lush foliage and happy yellow flowers sing out in joy. Our furry friends also add a splash of color and texture to the creative landscape with a little twinkle in their eye—and a cup of coffee when needed.

While it's easy to feel all warm and fuzzy (especially with all these animals), it's important to remember that the most acclaimed design doesn't come easy. It's a labor of love. There are no short cuts when it comes to creativity. As the ONE SHOW illustrates, you need to be passionate about both concept as execution. So next time you curl up with a design project, give it some color, some love and, if needed, be ONE with nature.
