Sagmeister aims to do about a third of its work for socially relevant causes. In 2002, Sagmeister teamed up with True Majority—a group of 500 business people under the leadership of Ben Cohen, one of the founders of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream—who had put together a 10-point program to influence national leadership in left-leaning political causes. Some members see it as a preventative measure against another 9/11; some see it as a plan for the United States to improve its behavior in the world; some see it as a group that makes the world a better place. It is a program with very wide goals–some specific, like paying U.N. dues willingly; some vast, like trying to solve the problem of world hunger.

Although True Majority didn't get off the ground until late 2002, Sagmeister started working on this project in 2001, doing everything from identity packages and brochures to cars that travel the East Coast drawing attention to the cause.

At first, Sagmeister worked for True Majority for free, but the workload became so massive that they either had to recommend True Majority to somebody else or get paid for the overhead costs of doing the project. Fortunately, the client was able to afford the reduced rate. Sagmeister stuck with the project because it not only reflects his political values but also allows him significant creative freedom.
